Tooth decay is a largely preventable disease and everyone can help themselves by cutting down on the amount of sugary food and drinks they consume, particularly in between mealtimes – please see our About your diet page for more information.
If you do have a sweet tooth, then swapping sugary products for those containing xylitol will help to avoid tooth decay. Xylitol is found naturally in vegetables, fruits and trees, it tastes similar to sugar but with 40% fewer calories, and is safe for diabetics. The European Food Safety Authority said that: chewing xylitol gum reduces the risk of caries (decay) in children”. Please ask us for more information next time you visit.

If a tooth does become decayed you will most likely need to have it filled. We offer three types of fillings, amalgam (metal), white (made from composite and matched to your tooth), and inlays (made from porcelain or gold).
